I’ve had a number of people ask me for Scriptures about God’s purpose for sex.   The teachings of Jesus are very counter-cultural in this arena so you really have to come to the text as a learner.

Our primary identities are as children of God, not as the sum of our sexual desires (Gen 1/Jn. 1:10-13).  Whatever our sexual desires are, we need to learn to handle them through God’s will.  The center of our lives is union with Jesus’ presence and will–to love God with the essence of our beings (Rom. 1/Mt. 22:34-40).  As Augustine once wrote– ‘my soul is restless until it rests in Thee.’

As broken and sinful people, we need God’s grace through the Word, Spirit, and Body to help each other to live for God’s will more than our own.  My prayer is this time in our church will be a revival to find joy and freedom in following God’s Word in every area of our lives!
